ROTARIAN EDET ATING has this to share
My Name is Rotarian Edet Ating.
My classification for now is Corporate Law Practice.
I was inducted into Rotary Club of Ikeja, District 9110 in a home fellowship at the then Past President Ojo’s residence(Elizade Motors) on 22nd June,1998, the birthday of my wife.
It was exceedingly exciting as the birthday of my wife was sumptuously celebrated in the same spirit. We only knew when we went there but did not know when we left. You can ONLY imagine that! 😀 The following day, my wife without any hesitation, resolved to belong to Inner Wheel and was elected the Secretary for two years consecutively.
The most striking moments of my Rotary days in Rotary Club of Ikeja were:
1) Repairing a blue Volkswagen car of a blind Itinerary story teller(Ewi). It is normally said that “The blind person does not need your money but leading him or her out of the blind spot”.
2) Giving artificial limb to the Amputated Baale of Balogun village, behind Airport hotel on Obafemi Awolowo Way was a great joy i derived from Rotary.
I did not do it as a business transaction but service to humanity hence i turned down the offer of a “Chieftaincy” title from the Baale of the blessed memory. Rotary is indeed Good.
In the same village, as Director, Community service i made Water Pumps/reservoirs possible for supply of water in the locality.
Moreso, I ensured that traders especially petty female traders had access to banks in their daily transactions. In my office, I also made adult literacy education available. Few years ago each time i passed through the locality, the beneficiaries would always refer to me as Teacher.🤣😅
3) As Vocational service Director, i initiated award to be engraved on the wall of Niemeth Pharmaceuticals Company Premises in Oregun as the “Most Environmental Friendly Corporate Entity” in lkeja which i believe it’s still there, Please Check it out any day you’re in Lagos.
It was based on this unbiased choice by me that my office rent at #99 Obafemi Awolowo Way, Ikeja was defrayed. It looks insignificant but the action was magnificent and gladdened my heart as a fulfilled Rotarian. 🥰💕💞💓💖
Rotary heart is universal. It is more of innate character than a mere impression so when you live in it, it makes you more pious than a Catholic Pope.
4) Another great Rotary Story is, as Director of Club Service i organised ‘Ladies Afternoon’ where all the creme de’ la creme, of all corporate Ladies within lkeja confines were invited for a talk on Ladies corporate Governance by former Irish Ambassador to Nigeria, an elegant lady of substance.
Really, it was one of those events that encouraged The Rotary Club of Ikeja to admit more women into the Club. Recently, on the roll, we have Past female Presidents in Rotary Club of Ikeja.
Honestly, fellow Rotarians, Rotary is dynanmic.
I broke out of Rotary in 2007 because of my agitations to relocate to Akwa lbom from Lagos and indeed i could not resist the temptations of Rotary good deeds and therefore had no other option than to rejoin Rotary Club of Uyo in 2014/2015 Rotary Year year.
I was marvelled at its SUPERB organisation.
I still retain that same registration number till date.
Indeed, there is no other pathway closer to Godliness than this great Organization second to none. Let all of us continue service to mankind in this way, dear Pacesetters.
Thanks greatly and remain Rotarian for Life.
