#MyRotaryStory by Rotarian Doris Essiet
It’s a beautiful morning and here’s a ” Late Breakfast Story” for your reading pleasure…wishing you a great outing today!
Before 2017, I never knew what Rotary was. I mean, I hear about them but I never really knew them.
But I have known Rotarians, or rather, people who are rotarians but I never knew them as Rotarians but by their classical act of LEADERSHIP.
Being a Rotarian, I learned what true leadership means.
I realized that leadership is about others.
It’s about serving people above self.
It’s about self-care
It’s about not seeking your own accolades but the accolades of others.
Leadership in Rotary means Service.
Now, one of the things I learned as a rotarian and that has helped me so much in EVERY aspect of my life is what we call: The 4-Way test.
👉Is it the Truth?
👉Is it fair to all concerned?
👉Will it build Goodwill and Better friendship?
👉Will it be Beneficial to all concerned?
The first time I heard this, it didn’t make sense but with a deeper understanding, I then understood what makes Rotary leaders exceptional.
A true leader doesn’t just speak without thinking how it will affect his neighbor.
A true leader won’t do something just because he feels like regardless of the impact on those around him.
A true leader realizes that his health is paramount and therefore doesn’t take his health for granted.
A true leader makes decisions based on these 4-tenets and applies them in his every day lives.
Do you know a true Rotarian? That is a leader!!!
I am of the Rotary Club of Uyo but I can help you locate a Rotary Club closest to you.
Vi vi Le Rotary!!!
