002 – My Rotary Story by Rotarian Amalu Tochi
In 2016 during the advent of Oil & Gas Industry dwindling crisis after the 2015 General Elections in Nigeria while in Port Harcourt, I got a call from PDG Emman Ude Akpeh that I should relocate to my state from Port Harcourt and serve as an Administrative Assistant to him as Pioneer District Governor of the New District 9142. He emphasized that he has studied me and found lots of potentials and that I will be a good administrator in the job as Administrative Assistant. At first I gave it a thought and later I found my way Back to Awka.
Well, I resumed at his office even while he was outside the country for a Rotary International Institute as District Governor Nominee. Then I had to acclamatize myself with the environment and the staff. Little did I know that I will be serving him as Secretarial Assistant with a Salary and thereby make all his Rotary Local Travels with him. This gave me lots of exposure on Rotary District Administration and network of Quality Friends that literally I wouldn’t have come close with.
In 2017, September precisely, while returning from an administrative duty, he called me into his office and BOOM! he said ~~ TOCHI WOULD YOU LIKE TO JOIN ME TO ACCRA FOR THE ROTARY WEST AFRICA PROJECT FAIR?. Of course YES was my answer. And immediately I was billed to attend the program, registered and it was an all expense paid trip with a Return ticket. Now, this was another way of exposing me to Rotary friends across Africa and the World and I made more friends and had lots of fun. The knowledge I gained really helped in my service as an Inspiration President of my Club.
Upon return from the Event, I became a Paul Harris Fellow of the Rotary Foundation Courtesy of this same man.
Dear friends, If there was nothing to leave with while serving him, Dear friends I left with a world class experience and on-the-job training on how to work (Inter and Intra personal relationship skills) with Government officials and public Office Holders. Today that rare experience and privilege is why I was able to be working with a Working with highly placed political office holders in Nigeria and beyond.
Thank you Pioneer and Action District Governor Emman Ude Akpeh Major Donor Level 3 for that privilege.
