001 – MY ROTARY STORY – ROTARIAN TOCHI AMALU
I started my journey in Rotary International as a Rotaractor and my story is always numerous. But let me take you on a journey from while I was serving as the District Rotaract Representative and afterwards.
On March 2015 prior to the end of my tenure as DRR, I got a Phone call and was invited by a very highly placed Rotarian to a meeting in Port Harcourt (Woji precisely) to be part of an Oil Servicing Job interview. On getting to the venue from Owerri at about 3 minutes later than the interview due to the rigorous traffic in Port Harcourt. I was rushing into the office and someone called TOCHI – First I ignored and he called again. I was stunned and I paused a while to check who was calling me. Behold Rtn Temple Onyekwena of RC Trans Amadi. He just said to me, ~~ where are you rushing to?, just hop into the vehicle lets go get something. And then I thought my village people have come to disorganize things for me, just for me to hear these words from Rtn Temple –
“YOU ARE PROMISING ROTARACTOR AND A YOUNG MAN WITH MUCH POTENTIALS. YOU ARE ALREADY HIRED, WE WILL GO TO THE VENUE OF THE TRAINING AND YOU WILL BE GIVEN A VEHICLE TO OPERATE WITH. WILL ALSO DO YOUR DRIVERS LICENCE. FROM NOW YOU ARE THE TECHNICAL MANAGER OF MATEMP SERVICES NIG. LTD.”
This was the beginning of a new life for me.
I was short of words but i know that this can only happen because we are Friends who share fellowship in Rotary. July of that same year he boarded a return ticket flight from Port Harcourt to Lagos to join him in a business trip (ANOTHER EYE OPENER) and we stayed in the cool and popular Victoria Garden City (VGC). This was another opportunity to meet lots of great me all thanks to Temple and Rotary. We became friends, brothers etc and this was my first Training as a Manager as well as Personal Assistant. Today many pride in my personality for knowing how to draft letter, proposal, Reply mails etc, this was my training ground and I appreciate Rotary for such opportunity. He mentored and developed my Administrative skill.
WHAT IS YOUR STORY?
